Cycling in the Lot
The Lot is perfect for cyclists of all levels
Not as well-known as its famous neighbour the Dordogne, The Lot is altogether a more tranquil area. Perfect for all cyclists with cars seen rarely when compared to other departments.
The roads are quiet and stretch for miles through idyllic countryside. Stay in the river valley amongst the vineyards and you can pedal peacefully from village to village sampling both the wine and culinary delights of the region.
The more adventurous can tackle the winding hills to the upper plateaus with their spectacular views of the meandering Lot river.
Whether on a touring bike or MTB you'll find plenty of signposted routes enabling you to enjoy the best roads and tracks.
It has some spectacular and historical places to visit eg:
- The village of Rocamadour being the second most visited attraction in France after Mont-Saint-Michel.
- Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is a stunningly beautiful cliff side village.
- Cahors, the departmental capital is built with in a U Shape Bend of the River.
- Gourdon is a hillside town with commanding views of the local Bouriane region.
Other beautiful towns and villages include Gramat, Figeac Puy-l'Évêque, Albas and Luzech.
